Hangar 1 / Possible Hack
September 16, 2019, 12:25:22 PM
Hi all,

My web host advised that the site may have been hacked. I've cleared up the back end but I suggest that you all change your passwords asap. I've deleted a lot of stuff for unused themes and a couple of files that may affect the current theme so please let me know if you spot any issues with the site.

Hangar 1 / Oh Matron!
March 05, 2017, 12:49:29 PM
Heard flying into an airport one night when the only available runway was the shortest one at the airfield.

Female Tower Controller: “Delta 324 do you have runway 34 in sight?”

Delta 324: “Roger we have the runway in sight.”

(Not realizing his microphone was stuck “My d**k is longer than that runway”

Female Tower Controller: “Delta 324 you’re cleared to land Runway 34. I get off at 10pm.”

October 25, 2015, 09:56:59 PM
Hi Chaps,

Looks like the version of forum software I have been using has reached the end of it's update process. There is a newer version but it will mean some changes to the forum. I'll try and get things up and running and back to normal asap.

Hi Chaps,

I know the story of the 109 pilot that escorted a damaged b17 home safely has been mentioned a few times, but I came across this article that went a little bit more in depth about the story and thought you might like a read.

Hangar 1 / Tex Compression for Nocke
November 23, 2014, 09:21:49 PM
It is I'm afraid a well known issue with a large mission on the Channel Map. The original prog. did not allow for the loading of such a large file and so texture compression is used to enable a map load.

What is strange is that it did not happen to any of us when we first downloaded UP 2.01, but over time it has affected Joel, Doc and myself...and now you.

It is a very easy fix and is only required for your UP 2.01 "conf.ini" file.

Below are the entries of my own "conf.ini" file and I have highlighted in Red the two entries that need to be changed in the "OpenGL" section.

[Render_OpenGL]
TexQual=3
TexMipFilter=3
TexCompress=2
TexFlags.UseDither=1
TexFlags.UseAlpha=0
TexFlags.UseIndex=0
TexFlags.PolygonStipple=1
TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0
TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=1
TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1
TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0
TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1
TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1
TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1
TexFlags.ClipHintExt=0
TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=0
TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1
TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1

Having saved these changes, you can test the mission we flew tonight by loading it from the Dropbox.

It is in my mission folder for UP 2.01 and is called:-

Channel40Fr_MDS113_DF01RBBeta_UP201

You will need to save it in your "Missions/Net/Dogfight section in a folder of your choice.
To fly you need to select Multiplayer and "create a server", dogfight and then find the mission.

Hope it helps
Cheers

For the mission builders:

Is there any chance we can do a short series of missions trying out some of the stranger aircraft that IL2 has to offer, perhaps under the guise of evaluating the aircraft.

We home some pretty interesting stuff that I don't think I've ever flown, such as:

BI-1/6
I-250
LaGG 3RD
La7R
MiG9 I300
MiG9 FS
Yak 3R
Yak 15

And this is without even thinking of the wierd Axis aircraft.

What do you think chaps?

Elite Dangerous / Fix for Crash on launch for Mak

Hi Mak,

Looks like the crash problem you are having is now a known bug and is to do with control inputs. Hope you get it running!

Star Citizen / DFM first impressions
June 04, 2014, 08:29:55 PM
 ;D

Well, it works! I wasn't experiencing any lag or stutters and it was certainly playable. I think it's going to take a little getting used to though. I've noted a few people on the RSI forums complaining about the slow control and movement when using a stick rather than the mouse but if anything I had the opposite. I was constantly overcorrecting and the turn and roll rates were very quick. I may even need to adjust the sensitivity on my stick!

Some of the input lag that people have been complaining about feels to me more like the thrusters doing their thing. I'm not sure that standstill to full turn should be instant and as a flight sim pilot it felt quite natural if possibly a little overdone. Not sure, more testing will prove if it's overdone or that I'm just not used to it I guess.

I seem to have access to both the 300i and Hornet for the moment and wierdly, the Hornet felt nicer to fly and was more manouverable but I had more success in the 300i. Again this may just be that I tried the Hornet first so had a little more practice under my belt before trying the 300i.

I'll play a bit more before I provide any more input but for the moment my verdict is 'promising'

Arma 3 / Jolly good fun
June 03, 2014, 11:21:38 PM
I happened across a copy of Arma 3 recently and it's jolly good fun! For those who already have Red Orchestra, it's a bit like that but in a modern setting. There is certainly no run and gun, re-spawn and repeat!

If you want a tactical, thinking mans shooter it's for you.

Also Sable has a few chaps that play that are always looking for other bods to have a go with. They are a decent bunch and a couple have even flown with us some time ago!

Hi Chaps,

As you may know I quit smoking and now 'vape' instead. Unfortunately the people that make cigarettes and the people that make pharmaceuticals to 'help' people stop smoking have asked the government to make it pretty much impossible to do so as they aren't making as much money now that something that actually works has been developed.

I would appreciate it if those of you that would prefer that I didn't get forced to go back to tobacco and die of lung cancer would sign on the dotted line.....
