Post by: =CfC=Fitz on September 05, 2013, 11:40:01 PM
I currently have only the base Aurora as the funds I was planning to use to pledge for a freelancer went towards sorting the pc out. Let me see some pics of what in sitting in your Hangars.....

I've just gone and upgraded to the limited edition Aurora LN, which on paper is just the same as the LX... but with more guns.

I went ahead and "reclaimed" my original pack and it have me back the $40 in store credits??? "OK..." So i just assumed they would go towards my new pack. Well apparently not.

I've gone and bought the new Aurora for now in the hopes i can do something with those credits later on.

p.s. No screenshots from me since my card can't run DX11!!

I was sorely tempted by the freelancer and then even more tempted by the super hornet but I couldn't quite bring myself to spend £100 on a digital space ship this close to christmas....so I upgraded my base aurora to an LN for £6  ;D

I am looking forward to riding in all your constellations though!!

Bah humbug I say Fitz bah humbug. But I commend your sensible attitude.
I tried to resist, ok only for a minute or so after Ms Gizmo took herself off to the allotment.

Hehehe....................hehehehhehehehe  Oh my, look at these beauties

(http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a96/johntarmac/ScreenShot0017.jpg) (http://s9.photobucket.com/user/johntarmac/media/ScreenShot0017.jpg.html)

And lastly,

I really would have liked to have been around when the 350R was on sale but this will have to do now until this happens

I've got to agree with Gizmo... We've got quite a fleet assembling here! We're definitely going to need to fly as the CfC Space Corps... or perhaps something more imaginative.

Oh and bagsy the back seat in the super hornet!
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: Gizmo on October 30, 2013, 11:29:33 PM
To be honest it's a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a game that's not yet released although I am hoping to get a lot of hours entertainment from it. I've played the X series regularly for 10 years and have clocked up thousands of hours gametime and this seems the natural progression. (Not forgetting X3 Rebirth when released). That's my justification anyway :D in the long run £/hour will be insignificant.
Yes Gizmo, keep repeating that.

But back to fun stuff, there are two seats in the Super Hornet ;) (Ah I see you posted while I was typing) In fact all the ships I've got so far are multi crewed. Oh lordy, I'll have to visit the store again for a single seater.
Or two. Hmm I think Ms Gizmo is going out again tomorrow and that damn monkey keeps tugging my collar.

If we get a few of us flying together we should be able to split the profit and accumulate credits faster than soloing it. Eh now I want a Starfarer.

The top turret can't be accessed yet cj but this is the view from the lower one
(http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a96/johntarmac/ScreenShot0025.jpg) (http://s9.photobucket.com/user/johntarmac/media/ScreenShot0025.jpg.html)

@ Conky, be nice and treat the Admiral to a day at a spa. If that day should coincidentally coincide with the day some new computer parts arrive, well you can't help that can you.
And use ewes to increase your rams :)
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: =CfC=Fitz on October 30, 2013, 11:46:28 PM
At least I'll have the benefit of knowing what ship I should be saving up for after release as I'll have the chance of a ride in them all before hand  ;D

I might just be able to stretch to an avenger before the LTI cutoff. I was thinking about it this month but TS renewal and some work required on the car put paid to that  :'(
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: Gizmo on October 31, 2013, 12:10:19 AM
I think I read somewhere there will be over 50 ships available so these are I would consider a starter pack. How many more will be released to buy for cash I'm not sure.
{I believe the LTI cutoff has passed, at least for late arrivals like myself. If you are an OB then I'm not sure how it works.} EDIT - Ignore this, I was talking rubbish.
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: =CfC=Fitz on November 03, 2013, 11:13:43 PM
As a veteran backer, I can still get LTI for ships until 26th November and luckily payday is the 25th so I may just squeeze one in if I'm lucky.

It really does look like we will have a considerable space faring arm of CfC and hopefully the guild bank/hangar system will make life easier for all of us. I know release is still a way off yet but does anyone have a hankering to be the CfC/SC guild leader? I didn't want to just assume and take the reins.

I'm finding it all a bit confusing at the moment, am I reading correctly that some of the new, errr, 'kites' are over a hundred bucks?! :o Or is there some sort of starter pack where you get a couple of them to start out with.

Of course I'll have to get a new computer first, and CWS treatment is soooooo risky and expensive these days... :P

Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: =CfC=Fitz on November 04, 2013, 07:43:30 PM
Some or in fact most are over $100. The cheapest package is the digital mercenary at $40. You get an Aurora and access to the alpha and beta testing.

If you are interested, let me know before the 26th as I can get the pack for you and you will have lifetime insurance on the ship.

Not sure if it's true but there are a few posts on the forums advising that the limited time ships will be re-released on the 26th just for the day other than the scythe.

If it's true, you'll get your chance for the M50 and starfarer Gizmo.
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: Gizmo on November 04, 2013, 11:15:49 PM
Tis true indeed Fitz, I just got an email saying all waiting lists are cancelled.
It said sometime before the 26th, to be announced. Gonna have to keep glued to the site.

And just the Starfarer will sate my lust for ships presently, I want that 75 tons of cargo capacity. Buuuut with the newly announced Mustang comes a whole new ship manufacturer and therefore a whole new line to drool over. Ho hum

Oh and by the way, it only took a couple of minutes per ship Gizmo. I didn't have to wait before I could melt or re-gift so if the super hornet goes back on sale I can do that one for you as well.

I couldn't help myself, I got an Avenger. Looks like Beans on toast till payday!

I'm also considering melting the Avenger and Aurora for the Avenger package and then using the remainder to go towards a Cutlass after payday.
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: Gizmo on November 14, 2013, 03:54:59 PM
Beans are nice, beans on toast are supposed to be a complete meal. You did the right thing Fitz  ;D

Don't forget the sales coming up at the end of the month, there might be something new that takes your fancy.

With regard to my Cutlass, I'm tentatively playing with the idea of gifting it to an alternate, somewhat nefarious account and using it to smuggle goodies from the seedier parts of the verse to my Chuffy character. No, scratch that, an Aurora set for stealth could do that just as well or better and be cheaper.

Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: cjwebster on November 14, 2013, 09:04:52 PM

Ah, Fitz... that one's been teasing me for a while to downgrade for it's practicality compared to the 325a - and then have the extra cash left over.

I've been trying to look at it from the point of view that the cash put in gets me the most valuable ship in my budget, and then use in-game cash to work toward an Avenger or whatever my taste my fancy. I think I'll try and stick to my guns (no pun intended) so I don't trade in my specialised dogfighter just before the dogfighting module!

I'm coming for a ride in your Avenger, Fitz!  ;)
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?

Looks like your starfarer will be available on the 26th Gizmo which luckily is a chuffy's night so I can sort out LTI for you. Let me know if you want to buy and gift it to me or want to send the cash and I'll buy it for you.

Also looks like there will be new ships for sale on or around the 26th.....
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: Gizmo on November 17, 2013, 12:22:20 PM
If I'm reading the news correctly  ??? it'll be from midnight @ start of Monday 25th for 24 hours. (PST)
The 24 hour wait before melting is from time of purchase so gifting it to you and melting won't work.
I can send the cash to you, can we do that online somehow ? (Not sure if I even have a cheque book anymore)

Ships and packages will be available for 24 hours (midnight to midnight PST.)
Monday, November 18 â€" ORIGIN M50
Tuesday, November 19 â€" ORIGIN 350R & Lightspeed Package
Wednesday, November 20 â€" Drake Caterpillar
Thursday, November 21 â€" RSI Aurora LX
Friday, November 22 â€" Anvil Gladiator & Aegis Retaliator (running through the weekend)
Monday, November 25 â€" MISC Starfarer

I'm going to try and resist new ships but I do lean toward impulsive on occasion. Got X:Rebirth on the 15th  :'(
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: =CfC=Fitz on November 17, 2013, 12:44:40 PM
Do you have a paypal account? If so it's fairly easy to transfer funds, otherwise, if you can do online banking, I believe you should be able to do a bank transfer without too much fuss.

I'm thinking of melting the aurora and using the funds to go towards a cutlass on payday myself....

I heard X Rebirth was a bit of a flop, what are your thoughts compared to the previous offerings?
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: Gizmo on November 17, 2013, 05:54:08 PM
I guess 'a flop' might describe it. It's very buggy but Egosoft games always are on release. They'll be working on it though and will get the wrinkles smoothed out.
Unfortunately a lot of people unfamiliar with X games got caught up in the hype and are now screaming like princesses who didn't get their piece of cake as soon as they sat down.
It's also a step away from their usual format and playstyle so I'm not sure yet if I'll actually like it. The graphics aren't my cup of tea either but might grow on me.

Have both Paypal and online banking.

Ok Fitz, I don't get it yet, how does one get lifetime insurance (LTI?) in this bloody game? ???
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: Gizmo on November 18, 2013, 07:24:54 AM
LTI is only available to people who backed the game before a certain date.
For us new people to get it we have to buy a ship and then gift it to someone like Fitz who will sell it and get the credits. Then he buys it again and it will come with LTI and he gifts it back.

After the 26th of this month it will no longer be available to anyone.
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: Gizmo on November 18, 2013, 11:23:49 AM
Eh Fitz I just realized all the ships coming in the sale are limited so they will have LTI anyways.

@ Conky Don't feel too pressured to rush into the game now just to get LTI if you only intend to buy 1 ship at the moment. Especially if it is a starter package because you will soon be buying more ships in game you will then have to insure. It has been said there will be well over 50 ships and probably added to as time goes by. Many of the ships people are buying with LTI now will most likely be obsolete later.

LTI only covers the hull so everyone will be buying insurance to cover upgrades and cargoes as well.

It's been stated insurance will be very affordable. Also it will only run during the time you are ingame. So if you buy 6 months insurance, play 4 hours a day it will last you 3 years before re-insuring.

Hope this helps put LTI into perspective.

Thinking if melting my Aurora and Avenger and getting a Freelancer package and a Cutlass, what do you think?
Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: Gizmo on November 23, 2013, 11:22:36 AM
If you've got the readies available Fitz I would say do it.

It's a more versatile package but you'll lose a fighter. But then the Avenger isn't a turn'n'burn so the Cutlass with 16 thrusters, though heavier, might outperform it there. Possibly has more range too.
I would be reluctant to lose the Avenger just because I think it's so pretty. (And possibly fastest of the non racers?)
The Freelancer will return more on trade runs and be more configurable than the Aurora.

Now would be a good time to change, gets you past the cooldown for melting if you should see something on Monday you must have. Xi'an Scout maybe  ::)

As an aside, I had 2 S/Hornets in the hangar yesterday, I had to draw on the full power of the Force to click the melt button on one of them. They looked so nice together.

Title: Re: What's in your Hangar?
Post by: =CfC=Fitz on November 23, 2013, 11:46:30 AM
Well I figure that the Cutlass has got to be at least a competent dog fighter. Spec wise it's very similar to the Hornet. Yes it's heavier by 1/3 but it has twice the thrust and twice the manouvering thrusters. Weapon wise, it's only 1 class 2 less than the hornet and you have 3 times the upgrade slots and a bit of cargo space. It also allows some boarding actions if I ever feel the need.

I still keep considering the superhornet, but I think the Cutlass/Freelancer combo will allow a much broader option of roles than any other pair.

With regards to the Freelancer, I'm hoping there will be a variant coming up shortly that I really must have.....

Personally, I'm quite taken with the Avenger. From what little we know, the 300 series seem to be more turn and burn whilst the Avenger is more Boom and Zoom. It's all pure speculation at this point though.

If you want a pure dogfighter though you might want to take a look at the Hornet.....

Yes, hornet FTW! It's a pure single seater fighter. None of your fancy leather chairs or drinks cabinet, it has a ruddy great big ball turret!

Hi Chaps,

I was perusing the SC website, mulling over my next ship purchase when it came to me that to a much greater extent than BoS, SC is still pretty much vapourware. Sure, you can look at your ships in your hangar and they are showing all sorts of concept ships that will be available sometime, but the game is still, well, vapour.

And they have almost $43 mil in the bank.

Now I'm not saying that SC is a scam, far from it, but I'm thinking they have enough money up front from the player base (435,000+), time for them to produce something.

Of course, after a few drinks I always want to pick up a ship or three... :D

I think the biggest problem on releasing stuff so far (and this is only personal opinion) is that the 'supporters' bitch over the tiniest thing. There is hell to pay after every comment or release of anything and so we get a lot less info and in progress updates than we used to.

Combine this with much greater media interest and they seem to have made the decision to make things much more polished than a normal alpha before they dare release anything. As we are getting very early access, I think it's a bit much to say they ought to produce something now. For a normal alpha, you wouldn't get anything until much closer to release.

In Conky terms, if you went to work and found you had an engine problem but half the passengers were demanding immediate take off, would you?

Check out the PAX East event footage if you haven't already seen it. The more interesting stuff that wasn't shown during the event, is staged from around the 25 min mark.

Hehe thank you Conky, that gave me a chuckle on the morning I have to go to the parent-in-laws for Sunday lunch.

I knew if I waited long enough the RS forums would come to Chuffys  ;D

 ;D ;D ;!D

Actually, I don't expect them to release the whole game just yet, I was simply wondering why they've been spending that 43 mil on before I give them more. BoS is well on it's way so I don't mind spending the $100. I would like to see a bit more concrete stuff before committing to newer, better, bigger ships and equipment in SC. If Sc turns out to be great, I'll eventually end up buying just, everything, just like I did with ROF.

It will be interesting to see how they will implement things like insurance in the game world, if you are uninsured for any reason and something happens to your ship and/or equipment, do you have replace these items? I imagine we will be earning those UEC credits by doing 'business' in-game but what if you don't have any? You can purchase them of course, and if my space flying is anything like my IL2 flying, I guess Roberts Industries will have a lifetime source of income  :D!

You'll be able to insure your ship, the upgrades and the cargo. It's supposed to be very cheap and easily affordable. However getting the ship replaced might take a little longer each time to discourage people playing chicken with every ship they see.

No insurance and you lose the ship. It'll be gone. Gone I tell you.

If you have no credits to buy the insurance you can work for other players and NPCs manning their ships and escort etc. There will be provision for people to earn without their own ship.

There will be more ships released as time goes on so there is not really a pressing reason to buy whatever is on offer at the moment.

Well the funding is actually quite different between BoS and SC. BoS has a publisher stumping up a lot of the cash and it is much smaller in scope than SC. SC is fully crowdfunded so no money from publishers there.

For concrete stuff, I suggest you watch the backlog of wingmans hangar, DF module videos, Next Great Starship etc. You could also do worse than reading the forums (though General Chat can be a minefield). Most of your questions have been answered ad nauseum. Such as, you do not need to spend any real money on the game once you have bought it. The game is free to play, no subscrition required and everything in game is only puchasable with the in game currency. There will be a limited amount of in game currency that you can buy if you wish but it is limited to prevent people just spending thousands of dollars to buy everything on day one.

I could go on, but it's all covered on the site. Just read up if you have any questions.

Over all, we are making donations to ensure the game is made, and to get as much content in the game as possible at the moment rather than just purchasing ships....

 ;D ;D ;D,

Hello Chaps,

I haven't read through all the forums or looked at all the videos yet but I'm sure all the answers will be there eventually. The thing is, pilots are legendary for being stingy, errr, I mean cheap, no, ummm, value-concious, yeah that's it, value-concious  ;). In ROF kites can be had with upgrades, for around $6-$7 apiece during a sale. With BoS, you get ten kites for your initial $100 'investment'  ;D. Good value in my opinion even if I rarely play ROF these days, but that might change with the new machine.

In SC, ships can be had for $225. Ouch! Ok, ok, I'm not a programmer or 3D modeller so I way out on a limb here, but its not like they have to re-create something that already exists to the minutest detail to satisfy the grongards, they're making them up as they go along. They are very pretty I'll grant you that. I've seen the film 'Gravity' so I have an idea what the physics are like but by 2140 they probably have stabilizing thrusters so fm programming might be simpler that modelling one for an atmosphere. No ballistic drop with beam weapons either.

It must be very gratifying for Chis Roberts and crew that over 435,000 people are interested in playing SC, those are fantastic numbers, and the business model of paying for extra content is a good one as we have seen with ROF. I hope they don't get too greedy (it is a business after all, a little greed is necessary), and manage player expectations so the game will match the hype. He does have a good track record for designing great ones so chances are more than good that this one will continue the tradition.

I'm looking forward to the exploration/business side of the game as much as the combat aspect, as I did with Rome: Total War.

Gizmo,

Loose your ship for good  8)?!   There have been players of WoW that have committed suicide because they lost are their virtual stuff because they got killed, imagine what will happen if they lost their dosh too.

Oh, and can I borrow your Hornet?  ;D

Try not to think of it as buying a ship, you're making a donation to make the game. The ship is a perk.

Once the game is live, you won't be able to buy ships with real money, it will all be in game currency only. If you think it's too pricey, don't donate. The game is fully funded now so all extra the stuff we get is a bonus. You'll be able to get everything in game and the Admiral won't need to guard her purse, other than from the requirement to buid a new rig to run it........

Splendid Conky, now you've just got to earn the money for insurance. At some point my Starfarer will be needing a wash and wax. I pay minimum wage. Hmm, wax on , wax off, interested?

In the squad system I believe we can borrow each others ships so 5 minutes ago I would have said sure, no problem take the Hornet. But thinking about the insurance now, will my insurance cover you, do you need to be a named driver or will you need to take out your own insurance? Will the upgrades still be covered? Do you have an International license?
Crap, we're back to real life.

Tell you what Gizmo, this is what we'll do to earn extra cash.

I'll bump into one of your ships very gently while you are in it. When the police come to take the report, you grab your neck and yell 'whiplash!'. The insurance company will write a big cheque, then we'll switch roles. Imagine if we do this with multi-crew ships.

We'll be rich in no time!  :D

BTW, is anyone buying UEC credits front the store?

Hi Chaps,

After being dressed down by Fitz yesterday (as CO of FFC, that's your job Fitz  ;D), I've spent some time in the SC forums. Most of my questions have been answered and I've also learned a few things:

1- I'm a rotter because I've paid for my progression, not earned my ships the old fashion way, by 'working' (commies in spaaaaaaaaace  :D).

2- Everybody is afraid of the Hornet (well, at least most of the Aurora drivers  ;D).

3- I can get fake id's! (could have this feature back in my teens)

4- You don't need situational awareness in the 3rd person (Buddha, help me out here would you please?)

5- There is an inordinate amount of Idris-envy in the community (I guess size does matter)

6- Unless you joined the community a long time ago, you have no right to complain about anything......ever!

And finally.....

7- I hope Ashman never finds out about FFC!   :D

Pip, pip,
Conky
In for a penny, in for a UEC.

I'm afraid my courage failed and I don't visit the forums anymore. The high level of trolling and immaturity finally did for me.

1- That's changed, it used to be if you hadn't bought a ship you were worthless.

4- You can tell the ones who have never played a dogfight game with cockpit view only, they are the ones who think a radar screen will be enough for situational awareness. Afterall who needs to actually see the person shooting at them. :-\

7- Shhh you know what will happen if you say A-S-H-M-A-N 3 times.....

Spent a little more time on the forums today, I think there will have to be an expansion pack created called Space Lawyer, to handle all the title claims for stolen/captured ships. They will be soon the richest players in the Universe  ;). This shall be followed by the Space Insurance Salesman expansion pack, which will feature the most tedious characters ever.

And it's only a matter of time until they make the Space Pawn Shop expansion module...

If you can only afford one, go for the hornet. Gizmo and I both have freelancers and there are already more multiplayer ships in the squad than players.

I believe it has also been mentioned that with a fleet hanger, we can allow access to ships to other members. Also as I only have multiplayer ships so far, I'll always be needing a crew!

I'll offer promotions to anyone loaning me a hornet, hint hint.....

Luckily I'm not the sort that lets need get in the way of want ;)

I was just thinking about the 'business' aspect of the game, and though I might need a 'wide-body' transport in addition to the 'narrow-body' ones already in my hangar, to use an airline expression.

Holy crap, I though my Wing Commander tumor was in remission, but it's obviously spread to my wallet!!! :P

Don't worry Fitz, you can have a spin in the 325. Best to keep the CO happy  ;).

I agree Gizmo, the folks on those forums are a weird bunch, very enthusiastic mind you, I hope their parents can lock the basement door from upstairs  ;).

Some are so into this that I can see SC being one of those games where players will begin to take on the persona of their game characters irl, at least on weekends and they probably already costumes hanging in their closets alongside their Star Trek, Star Wars and anime getups, eagerly waiting for the next convention  ::), and with the ability to be a member of either sex, you just know it's only a matter of time before players will want to, ummm, errr, interact with each other, as they do in the game Second Life. I don't play that one by the way but I did see an interesting documentary on players a while ago. Not only did some of them play 12+ hours a day, they would actually develop relationships with other virtual characters, including virtual sex, which landed more than a few in real life divorce court. How long do you think it will take until someone tries to do it with one of the aliens? Ick  :P

Makes shooting chaps in their parachutes quite quaint by comparison  :D.

A more, um, interactive social developement within the game has been requested quite some time ago. Ranging from people simply wanting skimpy spacesuits to gay and alien relationships.

There will certainly be those who will live the game.

For me, sitting in my IL-2 hat is quite sufficient.

This vid was quite impressive given that these ships are pretty much statics ATM.

FYI I believe the 'Goons' are long time griefers originating from EVE Online? Their intention is to cause as much disruption as possible within the verse.

As you say nice video considering what he's got to work with.

Unfortunately with Ms Gizmo talking in one ear, the cat squeeking for attention in the other and a wheel that keeps falling off my chair I didn't understand the reference to the Goons.

As for the Goons and SC, the player base is only going to be 10% of the universe. They could try blockading the homeworlds I suppose. I don't see them being any more of a problem than all the other 'badass' pirate wannabee groups.

One of the DCS guys posted his hangar vid. I might add, that this does not include his other purchases such as - Idris, Starfarer's, M50, 890 Jump and Scythe etc as they are not currently in game.

Believe he has 'collector's itch' or something?
