Blimey!  The saga of purchasing these rudder pedals continues!!  I ended up cancelling my order with Amazon Marketplace as the seller, ADMI,  could not guarantee a delivery.  So, I went to Ebay and bought a set from a seller called AWD-IT.  So far, so good.  However, I received an email today telling me that they couldn't guarantee a delivery date either.  I looked a bit closer at the email and discovered that AWD-IT is the same company as ADMI!!  So I cancelled that order as well!!

So, today I ended up going to the Flightstore who confirmed they have them in stock and I ended up buying a set from them.  I paid a bit more than I would have done but at least I know they will be delivered.

After all this hassle, this bit of kit had better be worth it!

Growing up I seriously admired the graceful lines of the Hunter so I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to fly this lovely aircraft.   Flew Hunter F6 XE 587 and Hunters T7 XL 564 and XL 579.   You would have been about 2 yo at the time, Chuffy.

I am indeed fortunate! :)

There was one memorable incident in a T7 which I might keep for later.

Blimey, I turn 40 on 16th and I thought I was getting old!   ;)

I am very jealous here gents!!  I have no real flying experience whatsoever and it's always something I have wanted to do but the lack of funds dampens any efforts.

The nearest I got was in 1976 when I was 6 years old.  My Mum's cousin's husband was in the RAF based at Chivenor.  We were holidaying in the area, so he took me and my Dad on to the base where we parked up alongside the runway watching Hawker Hunters taking off (can you imagine that being allowed today?) which I can remember vividly to this day.  I can also remember seeing the burnt out shell of a Canbera which was used for fire fighting drill.  But the one thing I cannot remember and which my Dad still reminds me of, is that I was sat in the cockpit of a single seat Hawker Hunter.  Apparently I was all over the place, flicking every switch I could get my 6 year old hands on.  It annoys me that I can remember every other aspect of that day 34 years ago but I cannot remember sitting in the cockpit of one of the finest jet fighters the RAF flew.

Grrr!  I just received an email from Amazon telling me that due to high demand for Saitek pedals, there is a delay of 1 week to their warehouse.  I wished I'd gone for the Ebay option now.  The only reason I didn't was if there is was something wrong with them , it would be easier to send back to Amazon rather than an Ebay seller.

That's done.  Pedals on order and should arrive early next week.  Hopefully in time for the next DF session!

Chaps,

Thanks for all the advice.  I'm going to have a measure up tonight and see if they will fit.  I've seen a set on Ebay going for a decent price (new as well!), so I hope the measurements come up trumps!

Cheers Sable.  I have a twist rudder stick as well but it is a bit cumbersome to be honest!

I know the squadron is named after me but I really am a novice flyer, so if anything will help me then that's all for the good.  However, one thing that does elude me is the dimensions of the pedals.  Not so much the depth or the width of the base, it's the height that concerns me as my PC desk has a low shelf that my printer sits on and I am worried that the pedals will be too high.  What is the height?

Chaps,

I am thinking of investing in a set of Saitek Rudder pedals to enhance my flying experience.  However, I am in two minds about this.  As is well documented, I am an infrequent flyer, so maybe the expense outweighs the necessity? Or will they really help me in improving my flying technique?

So, those of you who use rudder pedals, are they a boon or an extravagant luxury?

I'm a bit late to this thread I know but a docu-drama of First Light?  I hope they can do it justice as that is one of my favourite books!
