Tally Ho Gents!

I'm having a bash at the campaign and I'm quite enjoying it.  It's not really clear how/when the extra progression point in each campaign stage work, but who knows the twists and turns of war eh?

There are some general stability issues, where the game just freezes; the sound continues and I can hear the action continuing, but the screen has frozen.  According to windows, the game has stopped responding too. I've experienced this about 4 times over 2 days now, so it's a bit off putting.  Hopefully they'll get it the stability issues sorted out soon.

I have to admit that I've had the game interface up during a lot of the mission, because it's a barren featureless landscape out there and I'm a little rusty so need the compass and GPS.  The early Russian kites aren't over furnished with modern '40's kit either.  Well, that's my excuse!  ;)

Let me know what you think (for those with it of course!)

Poot-poot!

IL2: Battle Of Stalingrad / He111 Screen shots

Not very exciting, but worth posting.  The damage modelling looks pretty standard.

The 777 team landed the latest patch on us over the weekend which contained stability fixes, a new map (still winter) and the spanky-fresh He111-H6.  Have a dabble if you have it.

I've had a limited play and have noticed the additional load on the GC.  Still nice and smooth, but roll on SLI.

Screenies and more in-depth analysis to follow.

The 190 has arrived at Stalingrad.  We managed to get the below secret shots as a couple of examples went on their debut test flights.

If you're going to give it a twirl against them I'd ramp up the experience level to at least Average because the AI isn't really up to much.  I've not tried flying one yet.  Beastly hun crate and all that.

I know you can read it for yourselves, but progress is at 60% and the overall feel and look is good.  A few screenies so you can take in that snow!

IL2: Battle Of Stalingrad / Progress at 50%

Tally Ho-ski

Progress Summary:

• Progress currently at 50%
• Raw development almost complete (bug fixes and refinement next)
• The Beta release phase has started and will be active all summer
• Game is scheduled for release in September 2014

As Axion has said the La5 has been released and for me currently handles like the LaGG. Input handling needs work and I'm sure that it'll get it.

Trimming control has been introduced, I thought on the Axis AC, but some of the forum members have posted that it's working for the Soviet AC too.  I picked up a bit of right trim action on the La5, but not enough to get excited about.

Looking forwards to a bit more graphics refinement in beta too!

If you have early access, please let us know what you think.

Tally Ho Gents!

Apologies for the extended delay to an already sporadic update, but I have been sur mon holibobs.

Right, the status % on the game is still at 45% but they have given the early access bunch the Pe-2, which is nice.  I haven't had a chance to fly it, but I've gone sausage side and had a pop at it in a 109 which was fun.  Pics are at the bottom of this post.

As more features are added, I've had quite a few CTD's and had to perform a complete reinstallation because the launch/update, just wouldn't update.  All is still good in the alpha and I'm looking forward to the La-5! :)

I missed the update for the MP functionality so will post some screenies below.  It's all rather RoF as you will see.

And some battle pics featuring the Pe-2

IL2: Battle Of Stalingrad / Progress at 44%
March 25, 2014, 04:15:45 PM
Apologies for the delay Chaps, but I’m sure that those with BoS forum access have already viewed the updates from other Early Access participants.

I’ve combined Yak-1 playing time with the freshly released multi-player feature!

As we know the Yak-1 is better to battle a 109 than a LaGG-3.  My issue is how better it is.  In single player mode it is just possible to survive a 109 AI kite in a LaGG, but in multiplayer, it is much more difficult.  The LaGG still wobbles around its axis and whilst there is always a fair bit of technique and learning to apply, I can’t believe the AC operated as bad as this.  I know, I know, it’s all in alpha state and it could be my set-up, but with the current state of the FM, I can only say “Thank Wilkins for the Yak-1 and roll on the La-5”!!

The multiplayer maps are rather small which means that any practical application of tactics for the LaGG can’t be applied because the blue kites are above and no red kites can get in an advantageous position to protect you.  I’m sure that it’ll be different with the larger maps.

I spent a few hours on MP and it’s all very reasonable for 44%.  I have observed some interesting lag-warping which made intercepting a 109 impossible (I must have wasted 50% of my ammunition on him at 100M with no hits), so hopefully they’ll put in some safe guards in place to address this.  It could have been the game or his connection.  People are still practicing and there appears to be some new players on the field!  I say this because I’ve been totalled 3 times by other IL-2 pilots who cannot take off in a straight line whilst in formation.  I don’t think we can blame the alpha state for this! :)

Looking forwards to the Pe-2, FW190 and La-5 but more so to the refinement to what’s already there.

Whilst progress is marked at 44% the Dev teams are working on multiple streams (Single Player, MP, AC modelling etc.) in parallel, so who knows how the delivery of each area will jump around over the new few months.  I must say that the level of communication on their forum is great and they are always there with a sweetener (a new bit) for the next Early Access Session to keep those appetites whetted!

More news to come from the Eastern Front in due course.

The Yak 1 has been released to the early access arena. It's a welcome alternative to the LaGG! I'll post some pics and a game progress synopsis as soon as I can.

Tally Ho Gents - Here's the latest from the Eastern Front!

I wasn't able to log on last week for the IL-2 release, but this week I'm able to enjoy it and also the Ju87!

I'll add some screenies in a separate post per AC.  I've just taken them at installed quality, I've not added a Nvidia profile and I've stuck with the 4xAA value in the game.  More to add later.

IL2: Battle Of Stalingrad / Progress Currently at 39%
February 08, 2014, 11:23:46 AM
Tally Ho Comrades!

Well it's been a week on and the development is now marked as 39%.  Not sure how this works because the diary says that they've added AAA and other features.  The AC control's also feel a little more stable, but that could be my imagination.

I've updated the 109 screenshots and added a LaGG thread with samples too.  Visually is looks good overall, especially as it's early days but I'll be interested to see what the performance is like once there's more put on the map.  It's obviously not optimised at the moment and for me SLI isn't enabled to take on any load sharing, so it'll be interesting to see what happens in the next releases.  FPS and gameplay is nice and smooth at the moment BTW.

The tanks and trucks have a good bit or RoF about them, but they've been introduced quite recently, so hopefully the models and behaviour will evolve.

All interesting stuff thus far.

IL2: Battle Of Stalingrad / BoS 109 Screenies - Updated
February 07, 2014, 08:18:42 PM
I'll add the screenies separated by AC.  I've got quite a few, so I'll add them tomorrow.  Here's a teaser shot of a cheeky leopard skinned 109 smiting a LaGG

More Screenies as promised:

Tally Ho Comrades!

So, will the Eastern Front be accessible? Will I be able to drop bombs and fire rockets willy-nilly? Well it'd help if I read the gen, but that's what the flight leader is for isn't it? ;)

I'm getting back into air and hopefully BoS will be that medium to make it possible. Getting tired of running around a battlefield because I'm far too round for that.

I'll post the BoS screenies when possible but don't forget it's all still very 'alpha', so they'll be rough around the ashes here and there. So what's the point? They will be a good indication of the modelling and quality to come. I'll get some scenery shots too.

Have a great time in the air this weekend!
