Rise of Flight / Activation Issues
March 22, 2016, 11:59:23 PM
All is well that ends well I suppose. For whatever it may be worth: I bought ROF via CD and uploaded it onto my computer. In order to make the program work it needs to be activated. When I encountered activation issues I was directed to generate a "ticket." The response I received was rather peculiar. Before the powers to be would activate the game I was required to submit proof of purchase consisting of a photograph of the original box with the printed activation codes visible as well as the list of the "free" aircraft included with the game (10). Should this happen to any of you gents, you might have to go through this procedure also. Forewarned is forearmed I suppose.
Anyway, now I have to learn how to fly this beautiful game.
Cheers,
Minky

The sordid Steam saga goes on and on. Whilst in a charitable frame of mind I gave Steam another opportunity to redeem itself. After I downloaded Steam (took forever) and CLOD (which took an eternity) and even the latest update, the game is still conspicuous by its absence! After I click on the desk top icon, a promising message appears on the screen asking me if would allow the program to make changes to my computer. As you may have guessed it, eagerly and full of anticipation I responded in the affirmative. Alas, the same scenario follows. After a few furtive attempts the program quits and disappears from my screen. Am I just  unlucky or cursed? If anyone suffered the same fate and somehow was able to overcome this dilemma, share it with and give me some clues as to the solution, will ya? I'll be forever indebted to my CLOD savior(s).
BTW, all this transpires while I am dully signed in onto Steam on my account.

Cheers.
Minky.

Other Flight Sims / Mods
March 21, 2016, 12:11:23 AM
Gentlemen, today I was lurking around on TS (on and off) hoping to catch any of you for some advice. For lack of a better venue I will post my dilemma(s) on this forum. I uploaded IL2 1946 onto my computer and so far so good. I understand that I will need to upload mods in order to participate in any future Chuffy activities; so what are these mods and where can I find them? I also uploaded ROF from a disc I purchased, however, I am having issues trying to activate the game. I have already generated a "ticket" with 777 and hopefully I will be able to resolve these issues shortly. Any words of wisdom that you chaps are willing to share with me will be greatly appreciated. BTW, from what I have been able to observe the graphics are just superb.
Cheers,
Minky

I just love this forum, the interactions are super, responses to my concerns are sooooooo timely. In light of my frustration in trying to put CLOD on my computer, my  issues with Steam might prove a blessing in disguise. Just a quick update: ROF has been shipped and I am looking forward to trying it out. I am also looking at BOS but I haven't found one that has been priced at a reasonable cost, I did find some offerings from the UK that are very attractive. My concern: Will they be compatible with the US systems?  Due to the time differential between the UK and the US, what would be the best time for me to catch any of you gents on TS?
Again, my gratitude for all of the invaluable advice.
Cheers,
Minky

Thanks for the valuable advice. I proceeded to order a copy of ROF Channel edition from Amazon (they had a sale @50% off list). Anyway, I've been practicing my flying acumen on single player, and.........boy am I rusty! Managed to get a couple kills flying the Buffalo of all planes with the NL. When flying the Hurricane with the RAF I found out how rusty I've become!  Incidentally I use DSL Hi_speed and, on balance, I haven't any major problems (yet).

I, very much like the idea of ROF, however, trying to download it is neigh to impossible. It is exceedingly slow and the download keeps being "interrupted" numerous times. I am not adverse to purchasing a copy, the dilemma is which one, I believe that there are three versions on the market. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Minky

I appreciate all the advice. Question: Will CFC fly either or both BOS and ROF?
Thanks,

I am soooooo frustrated with Steam I could spit. I purchased 3 versions of CLOD and none of these works. Even though I went through all the steps, Steam won't let me spawn the game (yes I have an account with them). I am very interested in exploring CLOD, so my question is: "Is there a NON STEAM edition available anywhere?  I don't care if I have to order it from the planet Mars (or bootleg?). lol

Squadron Recruitment / Introduction
March 14, 2016, 03:26:49 PM
S,
By way of introduction, my name is Jip Woudstra (aka, Minky), an old Flight Simmer from way back when CFS1 was the only game in town. After CFS1 I was affiliated with an IL group flying all sorts of missions. I had to suspend my on-line activities due to an increase in career demands and obligations. I have since duly retired and I am chomping at the bit to get back into Flight Simming again. Needles to say, that my skills are quite rusty, particularly landings (lol). I am looking for some programs/missions that will allow me to practice. IL2 only has "look at" tutorials but no "hands on" practices (?). Anyway, I look forward to joining your august group and interacting with you.
Respectfully submitted.
Minky
