Dear All

Have never ventured near the formidable-looking FMB, but am starting to feel creative urges in that direction.  I don't feel can put a lot a time into it (would rather be flying), so I was wondering is it possible/permissable to adapt someone else's mission, rather than start from scratch?

I was started on this by the 4.10 readme which promises "high altitude sky colour change" and fancied exploring it a bit.  I was thinking of doing this through a late-war mission involving the escorting of an 8th Army Air Force raid on France (to cut down on journey times).  We don't often do high altitude stuff (is there a reason for this? Do people not like it?) and I thought it would make a change.

This is very much a thought-experiment at the mo - as I said I've never cracked open the FMB, so I would be climbing (another) IL2 learning curve

Hi Ted,

I guess the main reason for the lack of high altitude missions is because we have tended to build "multi-event" missions that include a ground attack element or several encounters with the enemy.  Also you will have to look at the map selection carefully as you will be able to see all corners of one or two of the smaller ones.

Have a go, I'm all for something different.  If you need any help talk to Conky, Bounder or myself.  My only suggestion would be to make the mission an "air start" so that we don't spend half an hour climbing to rendezvous altitude.  :)

Cheers!

Hi Ted,

Another reason for having fewer high altitude prangs is that the battles inevitably move to a low altitude and then it takes much too long to get back to the main action. It works well enough if you can resist following a diving bandit. The upside is fewer bomber losses with the downside being far fewer kills.

This website will give you all the hints you need to get started with the FMB:

If you have any questions fire away, we can always use more missions and campaigns! 8)

Thanks Pt and Conky, you both made a couple of points I hadn't thought through about my putative mission.  I'll cogitate a bit...And thanks for the link, Conky.  No doubt I'll be pestering you all for tips before too long
