Hangar 1 / Centennial Armistice/Remembrance Day
November 11, 2018, 11:30:25 AM
The most prominent Armistice Day in the lifetime of many of us here. If I make the next centennial one in 2045 I'll be nearly 96!

A number of pilots, in their memoirs and even writing at the time of the Battle, have expressed 'Boy' Wellum's sentiment; 'we just want to be remembered for what we did'. That certainly is the case here and at similar groups, FB groups, websites and forums.
And in the media recently, whatever you think of the veracity of the films, 'Hurricane' 'Squadron 303', 'Dunkirk' and of course the superb and moving 'Spitfire' documentary have recently acknowledged and paid tribute to the men and women involved.

Technical support / Advice please!
October 15, 2018, 02:05:26 PM
Having at last got rid of last of last two dependant offspring due to completion of degrees and MScs with them starting to earn an honest crust, I can think about upgrading my (good grief! 10y.o.) rig. So what are you chaps using that can competently run the latest BoX sims please ?
Nothing too fancy I hope, I am but a poor pensioner remember!  ;D

IL2: Battle Of Stalingrad / BoS now has Tanks!
November 27, 2015, 10:25:23 AM
I haven't bought BoS previously as it didn't appeal. Still happy with original IL2 with all the excellent mods from the talented community but this new ground forces element has me reaching for my debit card. (& of course the 50% off!)
I am sure many of the more serious tank fans frustrated by WT silliness will gravitate over to this sim now.

Technical support / Upgrade advice please.....
August 20, 2015, 11:53:57 AM
...........despite the drain on this poor pensioner's meagre income by various offspring in further education ('don't worry Daddy, when we qualify we will be able to afford a really nice nursing home for you') and various car problems. (I feel your pain Fitz!) I might be in the position to upgrade my Spectrum ZX to something a bit more able to cope with the newer sims.

I do not feel confident to self-build, so am looking at various rigs on the cottage-industry companies one finds on Ebay or the computer fairs held at the Motorcycle Museum by Excalibur near me.
Are  integrated graphics still a thing to be avoided? I'm looking at max. £600
Any advice would be most appreciated gents! Thank you

IL2: Battle Of Stalingrad / Standard version.....
May 11, 2014, 12:30:01 PM
.....is being offered again at $54.99 I see. Juist lacking the FW190 (which wasn't in service there anyway) and the LA5 as against the Premium version nearly twice the price.
Not so much the cost difference, more the fact as whether it will run on my somewhat antiquated kit. Might give it a punt at that price.

Technical support / A little help please chaps...
March 26, 2014, 12:46:34 PM
........joined server last night but at briefing screen, selected base and clicked 'arming' with no further progress on any base selected. Was able to run game as usual offline. Any solution to this would be appreciated. I recall this happened to another member but cannot remember the cause.
Thank you in anticipation.

Technical support / Resolution
September 04, 2013, 12:04:27 PM
Being a bit of a noob having only this sim for 13 years; I am concerned that I am not operating at the best resolution for spotting. Frpm chat on TS it seems that everybody can see me well before I can spot them. Am I right in thinking that higher res is not always the best for spotting at distance? Any advice would be appreciated, and gratitude expressed through proxy by matron and her ample delights. Thank you

Haven't had a chance to even try the sim seriously myself, but this clever teccy wallah seems to have produced a great mod to help performance:
