Hi BD. Is that the Spitfire July 1940 campaign your flying now?

Mak

Hi again Conky
As you can see I changed this first line.
NORMFLY 49449.80 22628.74 2.00 30.00 &1
You can tell the A/I to fly at 2 meters, the 2.00 above, but it will refuse to allow the airspeed to be input below the stall speed of that particular A/C. By changing the next number to 30.00 in notepad it forces the A/C to spawn at 30kps. You need a little airspeed to stop the A/C from just dropping on the deck and busting its undercarriage. You have to experiment with different A/C, the Fi 156 can be slower as the damn thing will practically fly at 30kph! Also I think I set the Ju52's at 3 meters high to account for the taller undercarriage. I wanted to liven up the begining of my missions by having A/C take off , land and do touch and go's. I tried using TestRunway's for the Take Off's but the A/I often goes GaGa when you put them on an existing A/F. So this was my solution. The Land and take off after one minute is more dificult and will only work on a few A/C. Most of them tip on their nose or stop their engine and just sit there. The Ju52 is the best.
I'll pull the .mis entry and paste it

The 52 has to be fully fueled and have a load of para's to work. Plus it needs a bit of a tail wind, 2mps I think. Its easy enough to get it right for say 4.10.1 stock for example, the fiddley bit is getting the same mission to work in all versions and mods. At 8 meters Alt 130kph she'll touch down sweet roll to a stop, engines running, then after a minute or so, rev up and take off. Just long enough for you to have a truck drive up, drop off/pick up something or someone, then drive off again. Little touches to stop a campaign builder getting bored :)
The second line [waypoint] is important too, Zero Alt, so that she spawns facing down a little

Indeed Mak; and just died due to overwhelming odds in the Dover attack :)
Looked great though, with the Stukies diving on the shipping.

Mak

Hi BD,
The reason I asked is that those two July campaigns are some off the first ones that I made and they are only compatable with UP3 and DBW as far as I know. I have not tried them with 4.12, but I don't think it has the Map. I later restricted myself to making campaigns in 4.10.1 so that thy would be playable in most versions and mods. Though the one I've just finished but have not yet published is in 4.12.2.
I just could not resist trying the new stuff. Its a heavy bomber campaign, Soviet Pe8, part of the Vyazma series. Not everyone's cup of tea as the missions are all at least one hour long and its only the formation flying and navigating that relieves the boredom, Oh and the hoards of 109's of course. ;)

Mak

Mind you, If you have 4.12.2 with HSFX that might work. All those new toys and sound effects too.

Mak

Nope, hasn't got the map. Does anyone know how to load/install a map? its beyond me.

Hi Mak,

What map do you wish to install and in which version of the game? We use only the stock UP3 maps although sometime we use an expansion pack (available on this forum) that loads through JGSME. We try to keep it as simple as we can so it's easy for new chaps to join in. If you are looking to build a campaign for general consumption, that's a different story and my best advice would be to peruse the map section on the SAS site.

Hi Conky,
It was somethink Bd wrote

"I am having a go from both sides of the channel; RAF campaign seems much more challenging than Luft one, though that is tough enough! Flying in UP at the moment, but will do it over again in 4.12 (it's that good!) to experience the contrast."

I was concerned because I wrote that campaign 'Spitfire/Bf109 July 1941' in UP3 and it will not work in 4.12.2 because of the map. Then I wondered if HSFX might have that map, so I installed the campaign in that and tried it, but no map.

Mak

Hi BD

I was thinking about making it possible to play those Spit and 109 offline campaigns in 4.12 to experiance the level of AI as you suggested but of course the CAN_Channel/CAN_spring Map is not available in 4.12. So I have changed both campaigns to run the CAN_Channel/CAN_40 Map which is available in 4.12 with HSFX. I just tried the first Spit mission and got my backside handed to me on a platter ;D. I will upload the 4.12-HSFX versions to the dropbox

Hi Mak,

HSFX is a good piece of kit and it would be nice to fly it in our sessions but I'm not sure if everyone is up to speed with the installation and of course we would lose some mds functionality. I've often wondered if DBW is a viable alternative; there are some lovely maps and excellent mod packs such as Poltava's SCW packs (7 so far), which include not only new aircraft but maps, objects and campaigns as well.

Mak

What Ho Conky

I was not thinking of online play, It was just that BD mentioned that he would like to try those offline campaigns of mine in 4.12 to see the difference in AI capability between 4.10 and 4.12 that we were discussing. As the map I used is not available in 4.12 or HSFX I thought I would change the .mis file to load the '40' map which is available in HSFX so that he could give it a try. As you mentioned in an earlier comment, 'Killer AI in 4.12' You got that right, got my xxxx kicked!
Looking forward to your 'Escort' mission this evening. Shame you gotta work.

CFC_Conky

Hi Mak,

Maybe we should start lobbying for some online prangs using 4.12  ;D. I we are doing 'dead is dead' or shorter missions, it might be an alternative, at least for some of the prangs.

Have fun escorting the Ju-88's, remember, Goering has ordered us to fly close escort... >:(

Oh, and please let me know if there is any friendly flak at Fifi's this time around.

Mak

What Ho! Conky

It would certainly make the Sunday CoOp prangs against the AI more chalenging. The AI is less predictable to engage, harder to hit and more leathal on your six. The down side would be the sound effects, they are very dull after UP3 [nice in HSFX though]. Also the engine management is a lot more touchy. Ive been flying a Bf109 Emil 1 in a campaign and I have siezed my engine 5 times out of ten in dog fights. >:(

Mak

Damn fine prang Conky despite the Maquis sabotaging the comms half way through. Didn't notice ant flak at Fifi's tonight
