December 23, 2022, 05:41:54 AM
Like the title says Chaps.

I hope you all find a tin of moustache wax under the tree and feast on banana sandwiches throughout the season.

I sure miss Bounder's Christmas hunts...

Space games / New Star Wars Game out.
October 03, 2020, 07:32:25 PM
Star Wars: Squadrons has just been released. I need another video game like I need a hole in my head but it looks pretty nice and should run on a mid-range system.

I haven't bought it yet, I'll wait a bit while others wring it out and post videos/stream it to see if it's worth the effort.

Old news, I know, but I just ran across this while perusing Logitech’s website.

I wonder if quality control will be any better...

Hello Chaps,

Nothing about WW2 aircraft, but I stumbled upon this youtube series a few days ago, interesting stuff nonetheless.

Hello all,

Glad I've not upgraded from Windows 7 yet...

Just read this over at the IL2 BoS forum:

As many of you are doubtless aware, CH Control Manager software has ceased to work recently under Windows 10. After several rounds of uninstallation/reinstallation, I called and spoke to John in CH support. Here's what I learned:

Bob Church, the developer of the software, has retired.

CH is aware that the software, the last version of which was updated in 2011, no longer functions under Windows 10.

CH has not reached out to Microsoft for assistance in resolving the problem with the software, hence Microsoft will never know that they broke it. John, on the other hand, seemed to think it possible that Microsoft could release another set of patches to Windows 10 that just might happen to fix the problem, as randomly as it was broken.

As a 40+ year Microsoft developer myself, I told John that it is up to CH to contact Microsoft and work with them to resolve the issue; it is not possible for Microsoft to fix a problem with the operating system that they are unaware of, and delusional to expect them to do so.
CH has not mounted a search for a developer to pick up the maintenance of the Control Manager Software.

Hangar 1 / Mechwarrior Online

Hey Fitz,

I've been looking at the reviews on Steam for this game. Lots of negative stuff; as someone who plays it, can you give me your impression of the game? Will I need to buy any additions right off the bat or is the f2p grind manageable?

Will have to dust off my Nostromo n52 game pad... 8)

IL2: Battle Of Stalingrad / Update 2.007
February 06, 2017, 07:24:12 PM
Hi Chaps,

The new update includes the 110G2 and improvements to the FW190 flight modelling. Haven't tried the 110 yet but the 190 is a lot nicer to fly. The critical AOA has been adjusted so you don't start stalling the second you pull on the stick and its e-retention is a lot better. Still not a great turner but you can actually use vertical maneuvering to good effect now. You should like it a lot better now Woof  8).

IL2: Battle Of Stalingrad / Update 2.006
December 24, 2016, 06:55:01 PM
Hello Chaps,

Another fairly major update to the game. It is causing all kinds of issues at the moment; for me the fix was installing driver version 368.81 for my nVidia card. You'll also need to have DX11 running in your Windows installation - it should already be included in most Win7 installs and all Win10 installs.

Here are some links to more on the subject:

Mission Building / Bombing aid in UP3
June 16, 2016, 05:45:09 PM
Hi Bounder,

Remember that Lancaster mission we flew? It was a night mission where you had the bombardier give you steering and dropping cues.

How do you set that up?

Thanks!

Hello Chaps,

Bounder has mentioned that one of the annoying things about BoS is the inability to trim the kites for 200 km/h during the landing approach. I was flying a couple of offline prangs last night and what do you know, you actually can do it. The secret is not using full flaps for landing; for the 109, deploy them to the third mark on the left wing, it will stay in trim and be very stable all the way to landing. The 190 can be trimmed quite close to 200 km/h, and I have not tried the Russian kites yet. The Yak has 'all or nothing' flaps, making it harder to trim for speed.

IL2: Battle Of Stalingrad / Online flying
March 02, 2016, 07:59:03 AM
Hi Chaps,

Great fun earlier today! I have to say, it is a lot of work to get close enought to a 109 to score good hits when flying the Yak now that they have tweaked the fm. OPnce my speed was gone it was very hard to regain sufficient energy to turn hard or climb. Since I'm a bit of a masochist, I might try the Lagg-3 next time  ;D. My biggest challenge however is navigation; the maps, while good are still not as detailed as the charts I used years ago flying in the bush (1:500,000, or 1 inch to the mile).
