Hi Buzzsaw,

Hmmmm, other than the 'delete cookies' option in your browser, you may need to get a third-party program that can clean them up. I've found PC World's (the magazine) website to have some good programs in their downloads section. Most are free, which is a bonus! Let us know how you make out with it.

P.S. We miss your skinning skills!

Thanks Conky

I have a feeling my question needs more info, as back when I had a brain, I knew how to do it.

Somthing about a hidden option in properties.......I think!

Heres my problem, when I start to typ in a url, windows thinks it's helping me go to a favorite place, by the first letter.

It's not!!  (believe me)   :-[   I like to surf, and must have picked them up while clicking on links.

My downfall for being curious I guess.

Hi Buzzsaw,

Which web browser are you using? I use Firefox and when I go to Tools/Options/Advanced there is a box that if checked, will autofill the url. I have it unchecked (switched off).

If you are using Internet Explorer, go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and the is a menu of options to choose from, including those that will autofill or suggest websites based on what you type.

Hope this helps,
Conky

LOL,    ;D I just now told my wife that some intelligent person is going to ask me what browser I'm useing,

because I think thats my problem, I went back to ie6 when 8 confused me and slowed down my puter,

I tied to go back to 7, but they knew people would do that, so they put the add on's and snoop programs in 7,

Being the rebel that I am, I've been liveing with a messed up browser.

Now they are forceing an upgrade for security essentials, which I'm not comfortable with,

and as a result, I have no protection ( I'm on my wifes computer)

Broken controls.. Messed up browser...antique computer....still running 409....brain cells dying.

Maybe I should just pull the plug...  :-\.........naw, I'm still a fighter   ;D

Thanks Conky, I guess my works cut out for me!

I've been wondering about firefox, is it easy to understand and work with?

CFC_Conky

Hi Buzzsaw,

Firefox is very easy to use and is very fast. Now I only use IE for sites that are not optimized for Firefox.

Thanks guys, I'll do it!!

Any ideas on virus protection?   of course free is nice!   ;D

I use a combination of:Avast!,Ad-Aware and Spybot-SD.   All free.   Been using them for years without problem.   Of course, I'm careful with what I download.   (Woof and Bounder need something more substantial because of the dodgy porn sites they frequent.  ;D ;D)

I also hear Microsoft Security Essentials is a good all rounder.

The only real way to get rid of hidden cookies is to put someone in your house on a diet - you'll soon find they mysteriously disappear.

I can recommend Microsoft Security Essentials

I use only Zone Alarm and Avast, with Malwarebytes for scans and Glary Utilities for the slickness factor.

Porn sites dodgy?  Good Lord, the country's going to the damnation bow wows.

And Buzzsaw, I switched from Firefox to Chrome.  It's greasy cool.

I'v got deja vue all over me...

thanks fot the input guys, been useing security essentials all along, never really had any problems till now,

It's common knowledge they can look in your computer any time they want, even your e-mail.

sense I have nothing to hide, I didn't worry about it.

A few days ago they gave me an upgrade, I scaned through the details, and theres this thing called spynet that collects

personal information on you (for your own good of course) it says not to worry, you have an option to turn it off.

Now beening a crazy old man, I'm thinking, if I can turn it off, why bother to DL it!....... WRONG again!

They shut down my protection!

I asked my wife, what would you do if our power company said they want our bank account numbers, but not to worry, they wont use it,

however if we don't give it to them, they will turn off our power.

She said, "say bahhhh and just do it! what choice do we have?"

So,... thats what I'm doing now, I upgraded to ie7 to get rid of the cookies, dieting didn't work Ted.    :P

Upgaded SE, they gave me back my protection, now we're looking into firefox and chrome for more speed, even if they are controlled by MS!

But then what isn't??

I guess the moral of my story is, if you get off your horse to take a nap, you better tie him up, or you'll be walking for a long time!

Hey Dan, you might want to check out Iron, it's done by SRWare, the same guys that do Chrome.

I'm not very techy when it comes to this sort of stuff and tend to rely on input from others rather than read all the blurb so I might well be wrong here but I believe Iron doesn't collect info on you and doesn't forward your browsing history.
If anyone knows different I would appreciate a headsup :)
I can configure it which means it's easy to use. It's reasonably quick and all my favourites are displayed as tiles on the homepage. Simpless.

Hi Gimo, thanks!

It's nice to here from you.... really!   ;)

I bet you miss those quick kills too!   :D
