Title: How to fly p40
Post by: =CfC=Woof on December 30, 2017, 01:51:23 AM
I just bought the p40, it shows in the library, but I'm unable to fly it...all suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks...

"Unable to fly" means you can't select the plane? In that case, did you activate the key?
https://il2sturmovik.com/store/license-keys/

Otherwise, if this is about "I can't get her into the air", that'd be a different story.

Cheers!
Mike

Yes, Mike, activated the key. P40 is shown in activation page. As are other collector airplanes. It does not have yellow bar beside it, in flight mode, however. I guess I mean what scenario do I select to gain access as flyable?

Thanks,

Roger

Well the P-40 is a Battle of Moscow plane, so forgive me to ask that stupid question: Do you have Battle of Moscow at all?
If so, starting a quick mission on the moscow map should definitely do the trick.
Maybe you can tell us your callsign on BoX so we can check your public profile if it shows the plane being available.
My profile for instance: https://il2sturmovik.com/stats/campaign/1152-sas_storebror/
Or Conky's profile: https://il2sturmovik.com/stats/campaign/2719-cfcconky/

Sucbloodyces...and may the designers of Steam be consigned to the nether world...I had bought BOM sometime ago and the P40 a few days past...I had the keys but they would not activate...impossible to read them in full as the box show showing them is so small, so no cut and paste into the new registration form on the sign in page and there ain't no clipboard.  But Google saved me with a reference to Open Office working as a clipboard.  So, sigh, after innumerable hours of thrashing around, I hit a blank page with Paste and there they were in full, ready to put into some form on the new registration form.  Wha?  If you've followed any of this you must be bloody bored, but for any idiot like me who signed up with Steam perhaps there's a clue here or there about key activation.  And the best of British luck to you...

Indeed and it's not too far away either.
Open...
https://il2sturmovik.com/
....and click on the "Support" link, that gets you to...
https://il2sturmovik.com/support/
...where you will find a link named "Key activation" first, which gets you to...
https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/15201-game-and-dlc-activation-guide/
...and there you'll find a link named "Steam version activation guide" which gets you to...
https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/9636-steam-version-guide/

That should cut it and for the most of IL-2's target audience I'd even say it's as intuitive as it can be.

Cheers!

Yep, Bounder, all set with the P40 and just shot down my first Bomber...Yowza.

And no, I don't drive around with Allison engines strapped to my pick up...

See you Tuesday?  I'll be there...

Now one thing's for sure: With the P-40 you've picked the most challanging plane in the current IL-2 Great Battles Series planeset.
We should meet online, I'll pick a Bf 110 and show you why 8)

Cheers!

Hi Woof,

You have indeed purchased one of the more challenging kites in BoS. The P-40 has very good firepower but generally comes off second best in a 1v1 dogfight. If operated in pairs/groups it does much better, just like in real life.

Pip, pip,
Conky

I've been flying the P-40 for the first time together with Mike on our server this week.
After a failed first take off (overcooled the engine in the tough russian winter!) we flew towards a guard objective and soon found us surrounded by Bf-109E's and He-111's ..

We let the Heinkels go and shot down all of the 109s .. granted, those were E models, but they were four and we were two .. In any case, I had fun with the P-40, maybe because it is a little more difficult to fly. After all, you "just" have to keep an eye on RPM, manifold pressure, oil & water temp, correct? :P

Best Regards,
skylla

P-40 performance sounds like time to show off :)

This was Skylla and me on our Test-Server yesterday evening (preview, click for full size if you're bored enough):

What does this have to do with a P-40?
Well... the single death marked at the right end of my line, that's been the P-40 sortie ::)

Another example of P-40's performance. QMB mission, 1 vs 1, enemy waves until bingo ammo, me in a Bf 110 E-2 with standard armament and 80% fuel agains "Ace" AI P-40 with standard armament and 80% fuel, starting altitude 1000m:

Seriously, the P-40 is fun to fly, but if you really have to fight, it sucks big times.

Cheers!
Mike
