Hehe thank you Conky, that gave me a chuckle on the morning I have to go to the parent-in-laws for Sunday lunch.

I knew if I waited long enough the RS forums would come to Chuffys  ;D

=CfC=Fitz

Just don't start bitching about LTI and cockpit views!

CFC_Conky

 ;D ;D ;!D

Actually, I don't expect them to release the whole game just yet, I was simply wondering why they've been spending that 43 mil on before I give them more. BoS is well on it's way so I don't mind spending the $100. I would like to see a bit more concrete stuff before committing to newer, better, bigger ships and equipment in SC. If Sc turns out to be great, I'll eventually end up buying just, everything, just like I did with ROF.

It will be interesting to see how they will implement things like insurance in the game world, if you are uninsured for any reason and something happens to your ship and/or equipment, do you have replace these items? I imagine we will be earning those UEC credits by doing 'business' in-game but what if you don't have any? You can purchase them of course, and if my space flying is anything like my IL2 flying, I guess Roberts Industries will have a lifetime source of income  :D!

You'll be able to insure your ship, the upgrades and the cargo. It's supposed to be very cheap and easily affordable. However getting the ship replaced might take a little longer each time to discourage people playing chicken with every ship they see.

No insurance and you lose the ship. It'll be gone. Gone I tell you.

If you have no credits to buy the insurance you can work for other players and NPCs manning their ships and escort etc. There will be provision for people to earn without their own ship.

There will be more ships released as time goes on so there is not really a pressing reason to buy whatever is on offer at the moment.

Well the funding is actually quite different between BoS and SC. BoS has a publisher stumping up a lot of the cash and it is much smaller in scope than SC. SC is fully crowdfunded so no money from publishers there.

For concrete stuff, I suggest you watch the backlog of wingmans hangar, DF module videos, Next Great Starship etc. You could also do worse than reading the forums (though General Chat can be a minefield). Most of your questions have been answered ad nauseum. Such as, you do not need to spend any real money on the game once you have bought it. The game is free to play, no subscrition required and everything in game is only puchasable with the in game currency. There will be a limited amount of in game currency that you can buy if you wish but it is limited to prevent people just spending thousands of dollars to buy everything on day one.

I could go on, but it's all covered on the site. Just read up if you have any questions.

Over all, we are making donations to ensure the game is made, and to get as much content in the game as possible at the moment rather than just purchasing ships....

 ;D ;D ;D,

Hello Chaps,

I haven't read through all the forums or looked at all the videos yet but I'm sure all the answers will be there eventually. The thing is, pilots are legendary for being stingy, errr, I mean cheap, no, ummm, value-concious, yeah that's it, value-concious  ;). In ROF kites can be had with upgrades, for around $6-$7 apiece during a sale. With BoS, you get ten kites for your initial $100 'investment'  ;D. Good value in my opinion even if I rarely play ROF these days, but that might change with the new machine.

In SC, ships can be had for $225. Ouch! Ok, ok, I'm not a programmer or 3D modeller so I way out on a limb here, but its not like they have to re-create something that already exists to the minutest detail to satisfy the grongards, they're making them up as they go along. They are very pretty I'll grant you that. I've seen the film 'Gravity' so I have an idea what the physics are like but by 2140 they probably have stabilizing thrusters so fm programming might be simpler that modelling one for an atmosphere. No ballistic drop with beam weapons either.

It must be very gratifying for Chis Roberts and crew that over 435,000 people are interested in playing SC, those are fantastic numbers, and the business model of paying for extra content is a good one as we have seen with ROF. I hope they don't get too greedy (it is a business after all, a little greed is necessary), and manage player expectations so the game will match the hype. He does have a good track record for designing great ones so chances are more than good that this one will continue the tradition.

I'm looking forward to the exploration/business side of the game as much as the combat aspect, as I did with Rome: Total War.

Gizmo,

Loose your ship for good  8)?!   There have been players of WoW that have committed suicide because they lost are their virtual stuff because they got killed, imagine what will happen if they lost their dosh too.

Oh, and can I borrow your Hornet?  ;D

Try not to think of it as buying a ship, you're making a donation to make the game. The ship is a perk.

Once the game is live, you won't be able to buy ships with real money, it will all be in game currency only. If you think it's too pricey, don't donate. The game is fully funded now so all extra the stuff we get is a bonus. You'll be able to get everything in game and the Admiral won't need to guard her purse, other than from the requirement to buid a new rig to run it........

Splendid Conky, now you've just got to earn the money for insurance. At some point my Starfarer will be needing a wash and wax. I pay minimum wage. Hmm, wax on , wax off, interested?

In the squad system I believe we can borrow each others ships so 5 minutes ago I would have said sure, no problem take the Hornet. But thinking about the insurance now, will my insurance cover you, do you need to be a named driver or will you need to take out your own insurance? Will the upgrades still be covered? Do you have an International license?
Crap, we're back to real life.

Tell you what Gizmo, this is what we'll do to earn extra cash.

I'll bump into one of your ships very gently while you are in it. When the police come to take the report, you grab your neck and yell 'whiplash!'. The insurance company will write a big cheque, then we'll switch roles. Imagine if we do this with multi-crew ships.

We'll be rich in no time!  :D

BTW, is anyone buying UEC credits front the store?

Whiplash. Whiplash!! I'm sure I heard something like this coming from Badgers basement once.

And no I won't be buying UEC for real money. I'm 1/4 scottish :)

Hi Chaps,

After being dressed down by Fitz yesterday (as CO of FFC, that's your job Fitz  ;D), I've spent some time in the SC forums. Most of my questions have been answered and I've also learned a few things:

1- I'm a rotter because I've paid for my progression, not earned my ships the old fashion way, by 'working' (commies in spaaaaaaaaace  :D).

2- Everybody is afraid of the Hornet (well, at least most of the Aurora drivers  ;D).

3- I can get fake id's! (could have this feature back in my teens)

4- You don't need situational awareness in the 3rd person (Buddha, help me out here would you please?)

5- There is an inordinate amount of Idris-envy in the community (I guess size does matter)

6- Unless you joined the community a long time ago, you have no right to complain about anything......ever!

And finally.....

7- I hope Ashman never finds out about FFC!   :D

In for a penny, in for a UEC.

I'm afraid my courage failed and I don't visit the forums anymore. The high level of trolling and immaturity finally did for me.

1- That's changed, it used to be if you hadn't bought a ship you were worthless.

4- You can tell the ones who have never played a dogfight game with cockpit view only, they are the ones who think a radar screen will be enough for situational awareness. Afterall who needs to actually see the person shooting at them. :-\

7- Shhh you know what will happen if you say A-S-H-M-A-N 3 times.....

Spent a little more time on the forums today, I think there will have to be an expansion pack created called Space Lawyer, to handle all the title claims for stolen/captured ships. They will be soon the richest players in the Universe  ;). This shall be followed by the Space Insurance Salesman expansion pack, which will feature the most tedious characters ever.

And it's only a matter of time until they make the Space Pawn Shop expansion module...
