keeping in mind that I have just returned and don't know whats been seen or discussed prior ,I came across this interesting bit of info.
http://fooblog.mexxoft.com/a-guide-to-night-fighting/  .......could make for some interesting missions. Who better to defend Blighty from the wicked Hun night bombing efforts or keep the jerry nightfighters away from our chaps in the Lancs and Halis on there way to give the Hun a good bashing in the dead of night then Chuffy's daring lads ??

I built a couple of missions years back along these general lines and were rather fun to fly except for the German AI's tendency to fly about with there nav lights on. Are they still doing that in the later versions of the game ??  The nav light issue didn't bother me all that much in relation to the the Mossie nightfighters sent to escort or fly "Night Ranger" missions which had radar but the non AI bomber pilots could see them as well which pretty much buggered the idea.I did read somewhere that radar for nightfighters would possible be showing up in 4.11. The original missions consisted of the bomber stream comprised of B25s with Mossie's flying escort and the Beau's flying "night ranger" missions against the active German airfields. UP2.01 would have the historically correct ( for the most part) aircraft Lancaster IIIs , Halifaxs and Wellingtons if they get properly fixed the Halifax is the only one of the three that currently flies correctly or doesn't shoot its self down.

So the idea here is that the AI flies the Heavies while we fly the escort and "night ranger" missions. Unless of course some of us want to have a go flying lead bomber.  keep in mind I have been away from the editor for years and several game versions as such I am not sure what changes or improvements that have taken place over that time. In the past versions of this mission the AI did a fairly good job flying the bombers provided the way points were kept simple with a minimum of course and altitude changes.

For a reversal of roles with the Germans doing the bombing and we doing intercepts 4.10 would be the optimum version until UP2.01 becomes fully compatible with 4.10. The advanced nav system in 4.10 would prove very handy.

Any thoughts ?

Sounds interesting Paladin, the more missions/campaigns we have, the better! ;D

From what I have been reading radar wasn't ready for 4.10 but should be for 4.101 and would probably be worth while to wait until then to build a campaign around the idea. How they chose to implement it and which aircraft will have it will be the big question marks.Hopefully at least the Mossie's,Beau's and A20's (as a stand in for the Wellington) for our side and the 110's and 88's for the Hun will have it available as far as stock aircraft are concerned. In reality I think this mission type would work best against human opponents.

Well we do have a very friendly German squadron keen to fly against us. We've already done one vs. campaign and with a few lessons learned with regards to mission writing and set-up we could probably get them interested....
