Well we may not trust some of the Belgian chaps negotiating Brexit, but the chap that bought my Panther kept his word and sent me these pictures of my poppy on an unmarked grave near Mons.

Very grateful to him.

Very true BD.

This really was a very poignant Remembrance Day.

I found it very hard to watch the Peter Jackson film "They Shall Not Grow Old". The added colour and detail just made it so disturbing......but that's how it was and it just adds appreciation to those that were involved in that conflict.

I usually lay my poppy at Tarrant Rushton airfield memorial but this year was different. It made sense to part with my little Panther Kallista in view of circumstances and last week a chap from Belgium (not far from Mons) rang up and offered the asking price. He arrived with a trailer on Friday and after agreeing to take my poppy attached to the radiator he departed for the Channel Tunnel. It will I'm told be laid at one of the memorials near Mons......wish I could have gone myself.

Mission Building / PvP mission update
October 15, 2018, 02:11:10 PM
I have updated our old CfC DF map (desert) to the current UP3 RC4 standard including the SAS dogfight server mod.

All appears to work normally but some settings are dependent on others.......the ability to have all a/c on the minimap indicated by white icons (instead of red and white) is dependent on having no map icons showing (no ships/ground targets etc) which we were used to at CfC as we had no icons at all. What you will see is all airfields, including enemy and also front lines.

As the map area is small, you will easily remember where enemy ships / ground targets are located after a couple of sorties, additionally the front line will separate targets from each side.

If you would like to try it with current SAS minimap settings initially to get used  to locations I can easily run it like that.

The year is 1942 (late) so each side has a considerable choice of a/c including bombers. Premium fighters of 1942 are limited:-

Blue:-
- 10x bf109 F4
- 10x FW 190 A4
- all other a/c unlimited to include bf 109 F2, bf 109 E7, plus Italian fighters of 1942 and selection of bombers

Red:-
- 10x Spitfire VC (2) .....two cannon
- 10x Spitfire VC (4)......four cannon but slightly reduced performance
- All other a/c unlimited to include Hurricanes up to IIC, P40 E, Kittyhawks and selection of light bombers.

There are numerous ground targets including moving columns, moving ships, and a few AI flights of bombers on each side.

Two neutral airstrips include the original CfC Fifi's strip at Sheikh Mohammed Lotavoil's palace which includes a ground bombing "target" in the sand and fly through hangar for the brave. The other strip is just to the south of the island and is purely for emergency landing when damaged in DF encounters.

I can provide a set of "Quick" missions featuring the exact mission if you wish...,..let me know.

We will have to fly this by request on my server initially.

At 1.36 in Bounder's tape it looks like the DC8 is taking off with reversers extended.  I flew it a lot in the 70's and can remember using the inboard reversers in flight...slowing down for the approach and reversing off the gate, but never on takeoff.  Any experts around to clear my misty memories?

Don't know anything about DC8's Woof.......only flew Boeing's.......but I wonder if the film editing jumps to a low fly by at the point you mentioned?

The CFM56 engine was introduced in the late 70's to the 70 series a/c which was 70% quieter....(Wiki)..I wonder if the noise reduction cowlings at the back of the engine might give an impression of reversers being deployed?

Still nuts😀

Edit.......it is indeed a sound reducing device........see here:-

Crikey Bluey.......... didn't understand a word of that apart from the A30 hand out of the window bit......always wondered for the 37 years I spent in aviation the science of aerodynamics and really am pleased I never understood it as I think I would have ducked out and made toy windmills for kids to stick out of car windows.

Mr. Benoulli has a lot to answer for and being Swiss should have concentrated on an alternative shape for Toblerone avoiding gum pain rather than frightening the hell out of adventurous kids trying to replicate birds.

I still think the words of the chap in the famous film about breaking the sound barrier summarise the British way of pushing aerodynamic boundaries.......push on the stick with full power and mumble into the microphone "Here we go........this is it" with only a vague understanding of what will happen..........here is the first run...... you'll have to watch the whole film to understand the theory that no understanding is the "British way"😁......(full film available on YouTube.)

I think all the video shows the DC 8 flying with flaps down so I would think he  exceeded about 150kts. but that is still about 50kts. faster than most wing walkers would experience.

Can't see our own CAA approving that stunt.......has to be the Canadian sense of adventure admirably demonstrated by our Canadian CfC contingent ðŸ˜,ðŸ˜,
